As I closely follow the January 6th committee’s hearings, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what this moment means here in Western NC.

NC-11’s current Congressman, Madison Cawthorn, played a clear role in inciting the events that unfolded and his predecessor, Mark Meadows, was by Trump’s side throughout that horrible day as his Chief of Staff.

To this day, my opponent, Chuck Edwards, refuses to call what happened that day an insurrection.

This isn’t who we are in Western NC. I knew it in my bones as I watched Cawthorn whip the crowd into a frenzy at Trump’s rally. And it’s just as clear now.

As I connect with people all across our district, the message I hear loudly and clearly is how ready people are for an approach to politics based on how we move forward together, how we bring our core values into our politics, and how urgent it is that we fight to protect our democracy and elections.

WNC deserves someone in office who will defend our democracy, not weaken it by refusing to condemn lies.

Cawthorn’s role on January 6th may have motivated me to run, but I wouldn’t be where I am now without your support. Will you chip in $25 or more today ahead of our FEC deadline to help us pave a new path forward for NC-11?
