The Starbucks at Ansley Mall votes in their union election this Wednesday! Wanna show support to the workers before the big day?

Come out this this Tuesday June 21st from 2:00-3:00 PM for a Solidarity "Sip in". Visit the Starbucks at Ansley Mall (1544 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324) and order a drink under the name "Union Yes" to show the workers you support the union. Don't forget to leave a cash tip and wear your DSA or union shirts! RSVP at atldsa.org/sbuxsipin

Join us this Wednesday, June 22nd at 7pm for a discussion on how capitalism has led to the destruction of the environment and how socialism can appropriately address and respond to the consequences of centuries of greed, with workers at the center of it!

 

This meeting will be held in-person. Since COVID is still a risk, we ask that you only attend if you're fully vaccinated.

Join them tomorrow at 12:30 PM, in-person, at City Hall to sign up to speak as a constituent on behalf of funding abortion care.

 

Juneteenth: Digging into the Capitalist Origins of Slavery

"This day more than any other reckons with the heritage of bondage chattel slavery like no other in this nation. That is right and good, but I beg for a deeper operational scrutiny of what this day means for those who were liberated and those who used their power to oppress and enslave others. When we look at slavery, race, and segregation not from an emotive point of view but from a historical point of view, it is my proposition that this is a day that should be celebrated as an anti-capitalist holiday of liberation first and foremost.

 

If we are to dig into this particular day, we should dig into all the incentives and influences that brought us the American chattel slavery system and the prevalence of white supremacy. And it is my belief that when we do that, we uncover the cruelty of capitalism and are urged to stand against all exploitative relationships even if they do not rise to the brutality of chattel slavery, because they certainly live in the lineage of that very same social and economic institution.
