** Baby birds, just a few days old, are being mutilated in UK zoos. So they can be used to entertain visitors.

How low will we sink to keep animals captive? Please help them!

Dear John,

In zoos and nature parks around the UK, thousands of baby birds like flamingos, storks and cranes are having their wings severed at just a few days old, simply so visitors can get close to them.

We have exposed this barbaric practice, named ‘pinioning’ where newly born birds have the half of one wing amputated, leaving these poor chicks disabled for life. They will never be able to fly.

I am reaching out to you today to help save birds from this horrific fate. To join the fight to BAN this cruel practice. And make sure birds never lose their ability to fly.
DONATE NOW ([link removed])

Your donation ([link removed]) today will be put to use to lobby the government to outlaw this barbaric practice. You will support research and investigations to collect evidence, to speak up for baby birds and force zoos to end this cruelty as soon as possible. Birds will continue to be mutilated until we do this!

Pinioning is carried out by slicing through the baby birds’ wings with a sharp tool and is usually done without anaesthetic or pain relief. This is a physical amputation of their bones, not just removing some feathers. Can you believe that? Zoos do this to birds to be able to keep them captive, so they can keep them in open ponds and give an impression that the birds are free.

We have discovered that often zoos don’t even follow the basic law to have a vet carry out this procedure - unqualified zoo staff do the mutilating themselves.

We need to take urgent action to stop this. Please will you donate to help us end this horrific practice now, before other baby birds lose their wings forever? ([link removed])

By donating £10 or more today, you will move this campaign forward to make sure we can intervene as soon as possible to protect these birds.

Sadly, for some it is too late. The flamingo pictured here, is an adult who has grown up after being pinioned. You can clearly see that half their wing is missing, that the bone has been removed. This bird may appear to be free to come and go at this zoo, but in reality they can never leave the ground to fly away.

But we can stop this! If we act now, we can fight to get this barbaric act banned and prevent other birds becoming victims.

To ban pinioning would mean birds are protected from this violent act. It would mean they will keep their natural ability to fly. Crucially, it means many zoos will never be able to keep these birds captive. This is what you and I want. This is what the birds want - and they are the ones who matter most. They have the right to live free from harm, and you can help fulfil that right by taking action today.

Please send a gift today and join the Fight for Flight for all birds in zoos! ([link removed])

P.S. Baby birds are being mutilated in UK zoos today, so they can be held captive for human entertainment. You can make sure this cruelty is BANNED and protect birds from this horrific fate. Please don’t delay in sending a donation of £10 or more today. ([link removed]) Thank you.

Thank you! Your donation will be used on this campaign and others, to help animals captivity.
