Team, today marks 156 years since the emancipation of slavery. It has only been one year since declaring Juneteenth a Federal Holiday.
Yes, we have made progress when it comes to racial discrimination and injustice.
No, it isn’t enough.
Not even close.
Actions
have been taken. The Black Lives Matter Movement has propelled us into a new age of resistance, and there is new momentum and energy around anti-racism efforts and fighting structural racism.
But we are still seeing hate crimes in the news, police brutality, mass gun shootings, and unchecked mass incarceration, and the list of issues that disproportionately impact the Black community is long.
We look to Black leaders to guide our organizing work and follow their lead.
We work to elect candidates like Jessica Mason, Mayor Ed Gainey, and Commissioner Shenise Turner-Sloss who speak truth to power and inspire action.
As a PAC, there are actions we can take to fight for justice, and that begins and ends for us with electing and uplifting people who are true community leaders. That’s our mission. It is narrow and critical.
So many leaders and individuals want to enact change, and we are here to support them.
Today, June 19, 2022, we celebrate the small victories with friends, family, and neighbors. We rest and celebrate and reflect, and then we put our heads back down and get to work. Take action, hold people accountable, and do better. We can all do better.
