Happy Juneteenth, John!
Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was adopted to our constitution on December 18, 1865, it took nearly a year and a half for the final enslaved Americans to be freed. Why did this happen? Because white enslavers evaded the law and were aided by corrupt officials who facilitated this act of treason and brutality.
The United States was built on the backs of enslaved Black Americans, and it's been a long journey in the fight for equality; one that is by no means complete. Milestones like the right to vote and the right even exist in society have been achieved through the work of fearless activists and brave individuals that sought to flip the dynamics of our society at great personal cost. Today, we honor them, celebrate them, and mourn the fact that they even had to.
We are proud to support and elevate Black voices, and we are committed to doing our part in the fight for equal rights. For decades, the members of the Republican party have been at the forefront of attacking and eroding the rights of Black Americans. The Trump administration only emboldened this movement, and we know that the members of the Treason Caucus represent an active threat to all of our rights, especially the rights of people of color. We as a country cannot continue allowing corrupt and racist officials to occupy seats in our government.
Today, we are here to say that we remain committed to unseating the members of the Treason Caucus and helping the crusade for equal rights in any way that we can.
Thank you,
David and Ian
