Research made a difference in 2019

This year, IWPR's reliable research was used by policymakers, leaders, and advocates in cities and states across America to shape and implement legislation that benefits women and their families.

IWPR's research was cited in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's announcement of a proposal to launch the Family Empowerment Community College Pilot Program to support single parents as part of the 2019 Women's Justice Agenda.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed House Bill 2005, legislation that promises residents 12 weeks paid family and medical leave and offers low-income workers full wage replacement benefits. IWPR provided expert testimony and research to Oregon Legislative Policy and Research Office's Workgroup on Paid Family & Medical Leave.

IWPR's Status of Women in North Carolina: Health & Wellness was cited in Governor Roy Cooper's Executive Directive to permit eligible state employees in cabinet agencies to use earned leave for “safe days,” which are necessary absences from work due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
