Friend:
"Donald Trump and his allies and supporters are a clear
and present danger to American democracy."
You would be forgiven if you
thought that statement came from one of us. It has before. But this
quote did not. That quote is from the January 6th Committee hearing
testimony of Judge J. Michael Luttig, who is a former federal judge
and revered in conservative circles.
What Thursday's testimony showed us
is that the legal case against Donald Trump is being built. When
American voters see the truth, they support taking action.
I also want to point you in a
direction of hope. In a new Politico/Morning Consult poll -- which was
fielded BEFORE yesterday's powerful hearing, a full two-thirds of
Americans approve of bringing charges "against elected officials who
have attempted to overturn the results of an election". 67% agreed,
21% did not. That is a massive margin. More importantly, it cut across
party lines. 86% of Democrats, 64% of Independents, and half of
Republicans. This is not some partisan game.
It's
clear we are breaking through. We have to get the message from the
hearings out to every American. If we do that I am confident we can
win this fall. Are you with us?
Let me ask this: What do
you think those poll numbers will be after Thursday, when Mike Pence's
inner circle and distinguished conservative scholars showed just how
close we came to a coup -- and Mike Pence was 40 feet from the
mob?
Over 100 GOP primary
winners so far wholeheartedly endorse the Big Lie. When they are
challenged on it, general election voters turn away from them. Not
everyone. But enough to defeat them in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio,
Nevada, and others. When voters see how ultra-MAGA these candidates
are they will turn away from them.
After three hearings we
know for certain the nation is at one of the most dangerous moments in
its history. You heard Judge Luttig say "clear and present danger."
That sums it up.
Our
task is clear. Help us build the largest pro-democracy coalition in
history and beat these loons in
November.
Thanks for keeping us in the
fight.
