CfA's June 17, 2022 Newsletter
Thank you for your continued support of Campaign for Accountability. We're dedicated to continue working to hold the powerful accountable.
This week:
- On Wednesday, the Tech Transparency Project launched Broken Promises, a new interactive database documenting years of Facebook content violations and the company’s cookie-cutter statements responding to them.
- The database includes 415 news reports about violations of the platform’s policies and sorts them into 16 different categories, including Hate Speech, Firearms, Violence/Incitement, and more.
- Despite the fact that all of the content violations included in the database were publicly reported, our analysis found that Facebook only took substantive action, by removing the content or changing its policies, in 18% of cases.
- The project also includes an analysis of the statements issued by Facebook’s PR team in response to these news reports, and found the company recycled the same language over and over again, showing how little effort it puts into grappling with these problems.
