We're passionate about the ocean (obviously). So, World Ocean Day. last Wednesday, was kind of a big deal. This year, we wanted to use our platform to shine a spotlight on some inspiring folk who love our blue planet as much as we do.

In this 'Vision for the ocean' series, we heard from voices like Melissa Reid, Paralympic medallist and World Champion Surfer, and Benjamin Jones, the founder of Project Seagrass. Check out all the blogs here and keep your eyes peeled for more in the series, next month.

Our chief exec, Hugo, also welcomed in this year's World Ocean Day with an article celebrating SAS' unique connection through the ocean, through wave riding.

"The unbridled passion for exploring, diving into and cutting across waves provides the renewable energy for our campaigns and community projects to protect, restore and safeguard surf and ocean ecosystems for everyone."

Did you know that over half of the British public are scared of swimming outside due to not knowing if the water is clean or polluted?

Well, there's an app for that...

Yes, this month we relaunched our Safer Seas & Rivers Service, making a splash across the papers with our cheeky 'Poo Watch' stunt on Jubilee Beach, Southend.

As well as keeping you safe from sewage, app users are able to report any illness after time spent in the water, email their MP to highlight pollution alerts in your area, and send demands straight to the CEO of your local water company. Direct action, fuelling our campaigns, straight  from your phone.

New byelaws for four Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) came into force last Monday that will ban harmful fishing practices, trawling and dredging, within these areas!

MPAs cover around a quarter of UK seas, and they look good on paper. But few of them are effectively managed to actually deliver any protections...

The new byelaws will allow us to see the true impact of fishing restrictions. It's a step in the right direction and we're looking forward to seeing life return to the ocean, in all it's variety and glory 🌊
