My policy on education will expand resources, not cut them.

Hey
John,
Last Friday, Mayor Eric Adams and the NYC City Council agreed to a $101 billion city budget, including a major cut in education funding. After two of the hardest years for New York City public schools and their students, resources should be increased to ensure students are not left behind and those who have fallen behind have the opportunity to catch up.

Building strong community schools is an integral part of a thriving community. We must ensure all our students have access to the necessary educational, mental health, and support resources they need to build a successful future.

We must fully fund our public schools by ensuring the State fulfills its Foundation Aid Commitments of $3.2 million dollars.

These funds will provide needed resources to students and teachers while paying dignified wages to school staff. Additionally, we must expand Universal Pre-K, beginning with Westchester County so every young child across the Bronx and Westchester has a strong foundation to begin their educational journey.

A high school education should not be the end of our state’s support for our students. Passing the New Deal For CUNY will provide access to students wishing to continue their education, without the unnecessary burden of debt, allowing our students across the state to expand their job potential and opportunities as they seek employment.

As your next state senator, I want to ensure the voices and concerns of the parents and students across the Bronx and Westchester are heard in the halls of the Capitol in Albany.

Cuts in education funding and resources for our schools will make our students fall further behind and I will do everything possible to ensure our students thrive.

Sincerely,
