Hey John,
Political leaders have proven time and time again that their incremental, surface level solutions that are designed to “work for the people” haven't cut it. Some have been elected on the basis of fighting for a just climate and self autonomy, but there hasn’t been any accountability or real action to protect the
people most impacted. That's one of the reasons why networks like PSN are so radical— we work to get to the
root of the crises in order to facilitate a cultural shift,
and we would be grateful for your commitment to “digging deep” to remain a part of our work by making a donation today to keep this work going.
A year into my time as a Board member for Power Shift Network, I’ve come to admire PSN staff’s unique and integral focus of giving diverse youth the tools and self-assurance to organize and collaborate radically. As a Network with a staff & board of majority Black, brown, queer, trans, and neurodivergent folks, we constantly bring up the importance of giving young folks the skills to be leaders in the movement. We know that they hold the liberatory framework needed to meet the needs of frontline communities being hit the hardest by the climate crisis. And the fact that our Network is a web of deep rooted connections of young brilliant minds who have a shared goal of creating thriving communities for everyone, makes the movement that much more powerful.
One Network Member Organization that immediately comes to mind is Divest Ed, who we now fiscally sponsor as they work to restructure into an org that is actively working against the nonprofit industrial complex. We are able to guide youth organizers into thinking beyond a toxic work environment we've been conditioned to live up to. That guidance and support starts with your dollars.
A strong organized base used to mobilize is rare which makes PSN that much more of a special space centered on building power led by young people, when political systems aren’t meeting the urgency the climate crisis demands.
Your donation helps us get closer to visioning towards a future where we can get politicians to buy in while relying on our own communities to build the power when the system won’t.
The living former directors of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change recently wrote that current government pledges and actions will not limit warming by 2 degrees Celsius— we are instead on a trajectory to reach 2.7 or 3.6C. Political leadership and their consistent inaction has proven that radical action through steadfast organizing is needed to meet the urgency demanded by the climate crisis. Activist and organizer-filled networks like PSN are needed to facilitate a cultural shift that prioritizes the well-being of the historically and intentionally marginalized.
With so much on the line for our generation and even more for those to come, we are more than capable of meeting the needs of communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Each person and organization in PSN strengthens the movement and brings us closer to equitable solutions for ongoing and intersecting social justice crises. Your donation will help us get closer to visioning towards a future where we can get political leadership to buy in while relying on our communities to strategize and build community for the benefit of everyone. Will you continue being part of this movement with us?
Sincerely,
Alexandra Grayson, Board Member at PSN
