This week, we are focused on the work and the progress that our work together brings.
Back in 2018, when Lizzie took on a nine-term incumbent member of Congress with an A+ rating from the NRA, she wasn’t afraid to talk about common-sense gun safety and make it a key part of her campaign, confident that — despite what others might think — Texans understand the risks and want a common-sense approach. She also campaigned on making our community in Houston safer from catastrophic flooding and storms, especially after Hurricane Harvey devastated our area during that first campaign.
Over the last week, we have seen the result of our work to get her elected — as the House passed two important bills with her support and efforts.
CBS News:
“House passes package of gun control bills in response to Buffalo and Uvalde shootings”
June 9, 2022
Last week, Lizzie co-sponsored and voted for a gun-safety package that would raise the minimum age for buying a semiautomatic rifle, ban large-capacity magazines, ensure safe storage of firearms, close bump stock loopholes, and strengthen regulations for ghost guns.
The families and survivors of the Uvalde school shooting — and everyone who has experienced gun violence in their communities — deserve solutions to the violence that has forever changed their lives.
Lizzie is determined to continue this work to make our communities safer and to make sure gun violence doesn’t become our new normal.
The Texas Tribune:
“U.S. House approves massive $31 billion ‘Ike Dike’ project to protect Texas coast from hurricanes”
June 9, 2022
Keeping us safe during storms is also important, and Lizzie has been advocating for and working to pass a plan to do that on the Gulf Coast. Last week, the House authored the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers transformative plan for coastal protection and restoration along the Texas coast — including the “Ike Dike” — which will protect the Houston Ship Channel and fortify Texas’ coast against hurricanes and rising sea levels.
Lizzie has worked to show her colleagues from across the country that this project is not only a big win for Houston and Texas, but for our entire country, as our port is a major economic driver for our nation’s economy and security. Another promise kept.
This weekend, we will celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday that reminds us of our ability to make progress and the importance of continuing our work to do so.
This week, we saw that work in action, and are so glad to share it with our entire team.
Thanks for being a part of the team,
Team Lizzie
