John,

Uber, Lyft, and other gig companies spent hundreds of millions of dollars to defeat workers in California, and they tried to do the same thing here.

Today, they lost. That means a huge victory for workers in Massachusetts.

The Supreme Judicial Court just threw out the ballot question that would have allowed app-based, gig-economy companies like Uber and Lyft to misclassify their workers as independent contractors — denying their workers the benefits and workplace protections they deserve.

That’s a big win for our movement, but make no mistake: this is just the beginning. Will you chip into our campaign now so I can continue the fight to protect gig workers from greedy Big Tech companies as Massachusetts Attorney General?

I’m no stranger to the fight to get fair working conditions for gig workers. I sparked the fight against employee misclassification in the gig economy with my first lawsuit against Uber nearly a decade ago, earning the nickname “Uber’s Worst Nightmare.”

Since then, I have been the nationwide leader taking on the gig economy — including Lyft, DoorDash, GrubHub, Instacart, and many others — continuing my long record of fighting for working people and putting hundreds of millions of dollars back in workers’ pockets.

I am proud to be a founding board member of Massachusetts is Not For Sale, the coalition opposing this ballot initiative, and I am so proud of the work the team did to keep Big Tech from rolling back workers rights here in Massachusetts. This victory would also not have been possible without the strong and unified voices of organized labor.

But make no mistake: this is just the beginning. The fight continues, but we know that when we fight, we win.

There’s so much more to do to hold Big Tech accountable and protect gig workers who have been taken advantage of for far too long. This is no time to back down. Big Tech companies will stop at nothing to maintain their power and deprive workers of their rights.

I will always defend working people and we need an Attorney General who has been a part of those fights and is ready to continue them.

Will you make a donation to this campaign to help build our organizing program so we can elect a fighter for working people as Attorney General? Massachusetts needs someone who will continue to stand up to corporations and protect workers without backing down.

In solidarity,
Shannon
