URGENT NEED: YOU
Today is an important day in North Carolina. The time period for candidates to file to run for elected office in 2020 has begun! Candidates can file from noon on December 2nd until December 20th at noon. What does this mean? It means that while some candidates have been running for a 2020 office all year, this is the final legal step with the state to declare what office they're running for. It's an exciting time.
Why do we need you? We want you to consider filing for a legislative office if you live in an area where there is no progressive candidate. It is important to the progressive movement that there are 170 Democratic legislative candidates running from the most flippable to those that need a few more cycles of work. Having 170 candidates will be instrumental to turning out the progressive vote across the country. Having most of those candidates be woman will truly change the make-up of our political climate. Since we're a swing state, this strategy could help change the face of power all the way to the top of the ballot.
How do you know if your district doesn't have a progressive legislative candidate? To complete the 170 strategy we are primarily looking in districts that are not a safe Democratic seat or a competitive seat. After today the State Board of Elections will post filing lists and we are happy to help you find that list.
What do you do if you're considering filing for a legislative seat? Tell us! Email [email protected] and we'll answer all of your questions and tell you your options. There are lots of resources in NC to help first time candidates file and run for office.
We want to hear from you! If you or someone you know is interested in filing for a legislative seat, let us know!
