Dear John,
Do you remember the books you loved as a child? One of my favorites was "Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown. I loved the simple story and illustrations, and the ritual of being read to at night before bed.
What I didn't know then was that this bedtime routine was helping me develop the language, comprehension and literacy skills I needed for future success at school and in life. At the Ounce, we believe that every child deserves to have this solid foundation for learning.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce that this Giving Tuesday, every dollar you give to the Ounce will be MATCHED with funds for children’s books and educational resources. This match is provided by our generous partner KPMG’s Family for Literacy (KFFL) whose mission is to eradicate childhood illiteracy by putting new books into the hands of children in need.

The first five years of a child’s life sets the foundation for a lifetime of reading and learning. And yet, nearly 5 million children under the age of 5 live in poverty in the U.S. and the majority don’t have access to high-quality early childhood programs that could dramatically improve their future.
The Ounce works to help provide children with meaningful early learning experiences that will prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

When you make your early Giving Tuesday gift of $10 or more today, not only will it be MATCHED with funds for books and educational resources, but you’ll also help provide:
- Doulas to help first-time parents build strong bonds with their babies before birth, encourage prenatal care and offer ongoing support during and after birth.
- Home visits from parent coaches to help young parents create a safe, healthy and enriching environment for their children.
- Quality pre-K education to young children from under-served communities to ensure they have the best possible opportunity for success in life.
- Research on child development, family engagement and instructional methods that improve early childhood experiences for children and families.
- Educator training programs based on research that help early childhood professionals deliver high-quality learning experiences to drive better outcomes for children and families.
- Policy and advocacy efforts to help policymakers understand the benefits of and the science behind early childhood education. This Giving Tuesday, make a gift that will last a lifetime:
