My father arrived in the United States as a teenager after surviving World War II first in Ukraine and then Germany.

His mom — my grandmother — cleaned hotels in New York City to support her family. My father became a proud union member, and he and my mother gave their children opportunities they never had themselves, including the chance to go to college.

From age 14 when I got my first job, to my time at Wharton and later in law school at the University of Pennsylvania, I never lost sight of how the hard work and sacrifices of my ancestors and my parents were the foundation on which I was able to build a life for myself and my children.

For me, this is quite simply the American dream.

I believe every person should have the opportunity to pursue their own American dream.

With the right amount of hard work and grit, it shouldn’t matter if you come from nothing — you should be able to build a better life for yourself and your family.

Unfortunately, under a Republican majority in Harrisburg, our elected officials are making it more difficult for our friends and neighbors to pursue their own American dream.

With access dwindling to affordable education, health care, and good-paying jobs with benefits, good, hardworking people are getting trapped in cycles of poverty in our communities.

Our Republican state government seems all too happy to help the rich get richer while working families struggle just to get by.

Harrisburg is broken. The state legislature majority is not doing enough for our families.

Instead of electing the same type of candidate – with no progress for our communities – it is time for a change.

Our community deserves a community-driven champion, not another lifetime politician.

I’m ready to be that champion for you in the Pennsylvania State Senate.

For middle class and working class families like my own. For people like my grandparents who sought a better life for their children and future generations. And for hardworking Pennsylvanians.

I cannot win this seat without your support. We need to be in this together to secure victory in November for working families. So today I’m asking:
