John,

Coming off the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde last month, June is a huge month for gun safety reform. Our entire team is feeling the energy change in Washington D.C. – and we believe that gun safety reform may finally be possible this month after YEARS of inaction by Congress. Here’s what’s been happening in Washington this week:

YESTERDAY: Lucy and Gabby Giffords led a ceremony to mark Gun Violence Awareness Month, which started on June 3rd. The ceremony on the National Mall was powerful, with rows of more than 45,000 red and white flowers placed on the Mall to honor the growing number of victims of gun violence in America every year. As we observe Gun Violence Awareness Month, we honor victims of gun violence by wearing the color orange.

TODAY: The House will vote on on the "Protect Our Kids Act" – a package of other gun safety reforms, including limits on magazine sizes, increasing the age to buy assault weapons from 18 to 21, setting standards for safe gun storage, and regulations on ghost guns and bump stocks.

TOMORROW: Lucy’s “Red Flag” bill will also get a vote in the House – allowing police and individuals to seek extreme risk protection orders for the temporary seizure of firearms in cases where an individual in possession of a firearm is believed to be a danger to themself or others.

A version of this “Red Flag” law was passed by Republicans in the state of Florida after the Parkland shooting, and we are hopeful that this measure – along with other common-sense gun safety reforms – will be passed by the House and swiftly sent to the U.S. Senate, where we are fighting as hard as we can to pass it.

As you can see, this is a big week in Washington for gun safety reform. Of course, Lucy is at the front of the pack and leading the charge, thanks to all of your support.

By supporting Lucy through last month’s primary election, you’ve helped to make all of this work possible, and we are very hopeful that 2022 will be the year that the Senate listens to the will of the people and sends common-sense gun safety reforms to President Biden’s desk to sign into law.

Stay tuned,

– Team Lucy
