Dear John,
This Friday, June 10, there will be a DFPS (Department of Family Protective Services) meeting, and the families of transgender children need you to side with love and justice by reading their stories as testimony in front of the committee [[link removed]] as we continue fighting the state of Texas' cruel choice to investigate loving families for honoring the medical needs of their kids.

We know that the religious right does not represent all people of faith, and it is in moments like these when the Just Texas community is called to speak boldly about the need to love and protect transgender children in Texas.
Today, we would like to introduce you to a faith leader in our community who has committed their spiritual practice to social justice: Reverend Erin Walter.

“I became a minister out of a call that is rooted in anti-racism and gender justice. [Two events] that inspired me to go to seminary were the killing of Trayvon Martin and Wendy Davis' filibuster for abortion rights. I just thought, ‘in different ways, one person's life can make a difference, and I'm going to devote my life to this work,' " says Walter, who adds that, "people of faith have a big role to play in the public square when it comes to fighting for democracy."

While we're seeing the religious right systematically chip away at our freedoms, bold progressive faith leaders like Rev. Walter are "bending Texas toward justice," by taking actions like testifying at DFPS meetings on behalf of the transgender community [[link removed]] . She's even traveled from Texas to New Mexico, supporting people who've been forced to leave the state when seeking abortion care. For Rev. Walter, this journey has confirmed that "choice is divine."
You can take bold action, too!
We hope you'll join fellow progressive people of faith this Friday, June 10, at the DFPS meeting [[link removed]] . Your voice is needed, and we are all in this together!
In unity,
Viv Perez
