xxxxxx,

While mass shootings seem to be happening on a daily basis these days, Ron DeSantis is pushing for permitless open carry in Florida. Floridians should not be confronted with people legally carrying AR-15s as they walk down the aisles of their local grocery store.

This isn’t the Wild West, and the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution does not allow for unfettered access to weapons of war. People can’t walk around with fully-automatic machine guns, RPGs, and grenades — for good reason!

It’s become painfully obvious that we need to require everyone to pass a background check in order to acquire a firearm, ban assault rifles, and ban high-capacity magazines that only help shooters kill innocent people quicker.

xxxxxx, I’m asking you to join me in signing this petition to tell DeSantis, “The NRA’s Attorney General” Ashley Moody, and their NRA-backed allies in Florida and across the nation that we need to enact common-sense measures to help prevent gun violence that’s plaguing our communities. In 1934, President Franklin D. Roosevelt pushed Congress to pass the National Firearms Act in an effort to prevent “gangland crimes of that era such as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.” It regulated the sale of machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, and silencers — and in 1939, the Supreme Court upheld this legislation, ruling that there is a constitutional limit on the 2nd Amendment.

In 1968, following the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Attorney General and U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Lyndon B. Johnson pushed Congress to pass legislation that outlawed “destructive devices” like bombs, mines, grenades, expanded the definition of a “machine gun,” and banned importing guns that have “no sporting purpose,” among other necessary regulations.

And in 1994, Congress passed an assault weapon ban that lasted ten years. In those ten years, mass shootings went down. When the law expired, mass shootings tripled. And the death toll from mass shootings averaged 4.8 per year during the ban, and rose to 23.8 per year in the ten years after the ban expired.

We know that common-sense gun violence prevention measures work, and we must demand action to save lives. xxxxxx, can you sign this petition to tell DeSantis, Moody, and their NRA-backed allies that they have a duty to take action to prevent gun violence? [[link removed]]

With your support, I can be Florida’s next attorney general and will do everything in my power to prevent gun violence that’s killing and wounding thousands of Floridians every year.

Thank you for speaking out to demand action to address this crisis.

Daniel is running for Attorney General because for the last 4 years, the Florida Governor and Attorney General have been more interested in bullying those they don’t agree with than helping Florida families. It is time someone finally stood up to the bullies. Daniel is the person to do just that — donate now to help power his campaign to hold Ron DeSantis and Ashley Moody accountable![[link removed]]
