Religious Socialists Get-To-Know-You
Dec. 15, 2:30 to 4:00 pm. Walker Community UMC, 3104 16th Ave S, Minneapolis, in the meditation room. With a load of new interested members, we will have a meeting to set course for the future, including whether we should try to start a branch or just become a Working Group immediately. After the meeting, those interested can join in the Natividad Posada which will be processing nearby, a chance to participate in an immigrant-friendly, bilingual local Mexican style community celebration.

Here's a seasonal post from a couple of years ago. "It's A Wonderful Life" was one of the earlier films brought before HUAC as suspiciously communist, even though the hero of the story is a banker (but not an evil or rich banker.) HUAC ended up giving the film a pass. IAWL is playing at the Parkway on Saturday, Dec. 21. -DKR

Law Enforcement Crushing Pipeline Dissent in Minnesota at Water Protectors' Blockade of Enbridge Terminal
There was virtually no coverage of this in the MSM. An activist suspended herself in a tripod and was locked to the legs of it. Police were going to cut off one of the legs, which would have been very likely to kill her and certain to injure! After failing to negotiate out of this scenario, the activist voluntarily came down and was arrested. -DKR

Appalachia vs. the Carceral State
This is a story about a campaign against a new federal prison in Kentucky that ends in an ambiguous win. The organizers involved connect the economy of the carceral state to the coal economy, both of which have damaged this part of the world in a number of ways. Depressing, but insightful! -TMW
