As federal protections for abortion access are sure to end in the coming weeks, and abortion laws are left up to the states, Black communities and communities of color will be most impacted as loss of access to reproductive health care exacerbates existing health care inequalities.
More than half of the states have trigger bans that will immediately outlaw abortion.
But for the millions of people who these bans will impact, who will need to travel out of state for abortion care, we expect more.
Friend, add your name to our petition to state legislators: Blue states must codify the right to abortion.
Recently in Connecticut, state legislators passed HB 5414 which ensures access to abortion in Connecticut and provides protections to anyone coming from out of state to Connecticut seeking an abortion.
Blue states must not only codify the right to abortion but enact legislation that assures equitable access to services for all. States that have already codified the right to abortion must take these protections a step further, ensuring the ability of clinicians to provide care and preserving the right to an abortion for those coming from out of state.
