Choose Faith Over Fear

Happy Monday Neighbors and Friends!

We continue to count down to election day with excitement and productive energy. The absolute best part of this process has been connecting with thousands of neighbors all over the ward. We have had so many stimulating conversations and I have learned a lot about what neighbors know are our most important issues. We have talked a lot about the rise in gun violence and crime, development and affordable housing, education, jobs and entrepreneurship, environmental justice, and other important topics.

I have also heard that some neighbors have been warned not to vote for the person they want because it might have unintended consequences in this crowded race. Their thinking is a vote for the person you want to serve could lead to the person you don't want to be elected. I say being cynical and voting for your second choice to avoid your last choice is a vote in favor of fear. More than once I have voted for the person I knew in my heart would be the best person, even though they didn't appear to be leading. More than once, I discovered that other people believed and voted that same way - and our favorite candidate won!

Voting with your heart and mind, regardless of what some rumored polls suggest, is the essence of representative democracy. It represents optimism and faith in your truth and your wisdom. When we vote with our hearts and minds, good will come of it one way or the other. I urge each of you to believe in the power of your own intelligence and intuition - believe in your own voice. I am asking for your vote, but more importantly, I am asking to show your faith in the power of our community.

In partnership,

Faith Gibson Hubbard
