Folks,
Last night, Tucker Carlson devoted an entire segment to criticizing my efforts to ban assault weapons.
Unlike my Republican colleagues, I will not stand by as kids across this country are gunned down.
I’m being attacked by the GOP because I want to do everything in my power to stop children from being massacred by weapons of war.
Yesterday, I spoke forcefully during the House Judiciary Committee hearing in support of the Protecting Our Kids Act, sweeping anti-gun violence legislation that would raise the age limit on the purchase of semiautomatic firearms, prevent gun trafficking, ban ghost guns, and require the safe storage of firearms.
Republicans in Congress refuse to take action. Time after time, they have put their right to kill over our right to live. And I’ve had enough.
Enough of them telling us that school shootings are a fact of life when every other country like ours has virtually ended it.
Enough of them blaming mental illness and then defunding mental health care in this country.
Enough of their thoughts and prayers.
Next week, the House will take a vote and I will fight like hell to advance the Protecting Our Kids Act.
If the filibuster obstructs us, we will abolish it. If the Supreme Court objects, we will expand it.
And we will not rest until we have taken weapons of war out of circulation in our communities.
Each and every day, we will do whatever it takes to end gun violence.
What we will not do is fail the children of this country the way the GOP has failed the generations of Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, and Uvalde.
