Did you know that 120,000 kids are homeless? Or that 40,000 veterans are homeless?

That’s what I emphasized when I went on Fox News primetime with Jesse Watters last night. Fox has been attacking my ideas for weeks now, but even Watters had to agree that in the richest country on Earth, no one should be homeless — especially not kids and veterans.

I’ve even gotten emails from Fox viewers who said they’re not Democrats — including one person who’s a combat vet — who told me they liked my ideas for increasing the minimum wage and using vacant homes for housing.

We had tent cities in this country during the Great Depression. We have tent cities now. The problem hasn’t gone away, and has only gotten worse. That’s why doing the same things over and over again — things that have proven to be a failure — won’t solve this crisis.

We need to take a hard look at the fact that there are 13 million empty homes in this country, including in every corner of my district. And then ask ourselves: why aren’t we using these homes to home people?
