We can't allow this to be what normal looks like in America. We cannot become numb to the violence.

Our hearts are with the families of Uvalde, Texas. But our thoughts and prayers aren't enough. Not nearly enough.

In 2020, gun violence became the leading cause of death for American children. And yet again, and again, and again, we see the NRA and the gun lobby organize to halt necessary action.

We must put our kids ahead of these monsters.

Here in Washington state, we've taken action to keep our kids safe. I'm proud that our state has taken action to:

Ensure universal background checks for gun owners
Ban high-capacity magazines, ghost guns, and bump stocks
Hold gun owners liable if they don't secure their firearms safely
Washington state's taken action. Congress, you're up.

The reality is that, to truly protect our children and our grandchildren, we need gun reform on a national level.
