The last 48 hours have been truly painful. All our thoughts are with the parents, friends, and loved ones of the innocent children whose lives were cut short by the unspeakable violence this week in Texas.

As a mother of two boys myself, my heart breaks for the families enduring such unimaginable loss.

No other country on earth tolerates this type of mass gun violence. These attacks are not inevitable. And this moment — just like Sandy Hook, Parkland, Buffalo, and the hundreds that came before it — can be the catalyst for change. We don’t have to make the false choice between protecting our constitutional rights or protecting our communities. Good and responsible governance is possible.

What we know to be true: the servant leaders we work with every day at New Politics have the courage to stand up to special interests and do what is necessary to keep Americans safe from these atrocities. Electing leaders on both sides of the aisle who truly know what it means to serve the people is a matter of urgent public health.

We’re working towards that day when parents won't have to fear for their children's safety as they send them off to school. We’ll continue to do everything in our power to make that vision a reality.

Today we are heartbroken and grieving for our fellow Americans. But the work continues, and I hope you’ll stick with us as we take it on.

Take care and more soon,
Emily

We support outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
