John,
Time and time again, our country has said "Never Again" in the face of the devastating tragedy of a school shooting. We have buried the futures of children in graves that should have never have had to be dug, and we have given up the idea that school should be a place of safety and peace; instead teaching our kids how to escape active shooters, barricade classroom doors and flee to safety.
We are heartbroken at the news coming from Uvalde, Texas. The magnitude of yet another act of senseless gun violence echoes through our country and exposes the tragedy of the American experience.
It has been ten years since Sandy Hook and 23 since Columbine. Over and over again, Republican lawmakers have decided that loyalty to the gun lobby is more important than the lives of our children and our teachers.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz is calling for nothing but thoughts and prayers right now after voting against measures that would have prevented this. Marjorie Taylor Greene reposted a tweet informing people "How to help, where to donate blood" in response to the shooting, when she has encouraged violence since the moment she was elected. Scott Perry is "heartbroken and sickened" and states that this action was "pure evil" while regurgitating harmful and disproven talking points from the gun lobby. This hypocrisy is shameful and a moral stain on our country. Thoughts and prayers do nothing when they are not accompanied by real action by those who are in a position to affect change.
This November, we WILL vote for leaders who will finally take action and prevent the loss of any more lives in the hallways of our schools. Today our nation is in mourning, but we must use this sorrow and anger to make sure "Never Again" means never again.
