Good morning. Here's

a preview of today's show . Below, Texas Public Radio reporter

Brian Kirkpatrick reflects on his coverage of the killings at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Covering this horrific shooting in my home state was not what I expected to be covering waking up on primary-runoff Tuesday.

As I drove from San Antonio to Uvalde, ambulances passed me by. It was clear the death toll was going to rise. This was going to be a major event.

It’s too soon to completely process all this. Our newsroom hasn’t stopped since yesterday afternoon. But to the Texas Standard readers, I want to say thank you for your support in covering this horrific tragedy. I don’t take my responsibility lightly to tell this story from Uvalde to the rest of Texas and the world.

I had a chance to talk to community members and attend a prayer vigil last night, and I’m in awe of their resilience after experiencing such unspeakable trauma. As the conversation shifts to policy on a macro level, it is my hope that their voices continue to be highlighted in the days, months and years to come.
