Dear John,
We know this election season will be a turbulent one. Some of the turbulence we can plan for, like the Supreme Court repealing Roe v. Wade this summer. Some will be a surprise. Either way, our candidates need to be prepared to speak to their voters with a values-first message, no matter what the topic is.
On June 11th and 12th, we are partnering with Lead NC and Progress NC on a Foundations of Issues and Messaging training for candidates. We are welcoming candidates of all genders and at all levels of the ballot to apply.

This training is a one-stop shop for candidates hoping to effectively convey their values and plans to their voters. On day one, we will cover the foundations of messaging and developing personal narratives. Progress NC will be joining us to discuss their recent polling data about how voters feel about the current political climate. This is the only training of its kind being offered all cycle!
On day two, we are so excited to be joined by six issues experts from our partner organizations around the state. These experts will train our candidates on the foundations of their work and the best ways to speak about these issues to voters. We will be covering:
- Reproductive Justice with Jina Dhillon from UNC-CH
-
Criminal Justice with Naomi Randolph-Hwesuhunu & Femi Hwesuhunu
- Labor & the Economy with Jeremy Sprinkle from the AFL-CIO
- LGBTQ+ Issues with Kendra Johnson from Equality NC
- Voting Rights with Marcus Bass from Advance North Carolina
- Education and CRT with Tamika Walker Kelly & Nicole Price from the NCAE
This is a crucial training for current elected officials and new candidates. We are excited that this coalition of progressive North Carolina organizations has come together to train candidates from across the state!
