Last week, I was moved to see Georgia’s own Rep. John Lewis and Sen. Johnny Isakson embrace on the House floor as Isakson prepares to retire.

Team, I know that for many of us, this can be a difficult season. Thanksgiving is about reflecting on all that we’re thankful for – but sitting elbow-to-elbow with family members who disagree with us on key issues doesn’t exactly put us in a grateful state of mind.

But when that happens – when we feel discouraged, slighted, or let down by the people around us, we should remember that Democrat John Lewis reached out to his longtime Republican colleague and friend, Johnny Isakson – proving that even those who fundamentally disagree with one another can show mutual respect and even friendship.

So as we sit with our families on Thanksgiving, we should be ready to reach across the table – just as John reached for his friend last week.

Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Carolyn
