The state has a record budget surplus, and Gov. Cooper wants to use part of it to meet North Carolina's climate and clean energy goals. Click here to email your legislators in support! » [link removed]

John,

The General Assembly came back in session on Wednesday. One of the items likely on their agenda is adjustments to last year’s budget.

Last week, Gov. Cooper presented them with a great proposal that uses some of our budget surplus to tackle climate change and keep us safe from pollution.

These should be easy measures for legislators to support, but they must hear from John xxxxxx now. They only plan to stay in session for five or six weeks, and then they’ll go home to campaign for the rest of the year.

What’s in his budget? Some highlights:

* $20 million to help local governments win federal grants from the bipartisan infrastructure law and make sure North Carolina gets its fair share of the money

* $18 million for more hog farm buyouts in the 100-year floodplain

* $15 million for home weatherization and energy efficiency, covering gaps in federal funding that prevent some of the worst-off homes from accessing funds

* $10 million for clean energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation projects at K-12 schools and community colleges

* $10 million for local government bike and pedestrian safety projects

Are you with us and Gov. Cooper? Let your lawmakers know before it's too late!
