Five days ago Chris experienced light-headedness and acute neck pain while giving a speech. He completed his remarks, drove nearly 3 hours back home, and then sought medical attention — finding out hours later that he had suffered a ‘benign’ venous tear (technically a minor stroke) at the base of his head/neck area.

Our family is so very thankful that he is currently on the way to full recovery and that his doctors are confident there will be no long term effects from this incident.

We deeply appreciate all the well-wishes, messages, and outpouring of love that he has received from so many Marylanders and others.

Thank you for all of your caring and concerned words. It means a great deal to Chris to hear from friends and supporters - you can click here to sign a Get Well card for him: [link removed]

As we were sitting in the emergency room at George Washington University Hospital Saturday evening, the horrendous news came in about the racially motivated massacre in Buffalo. Pure evil, Chris called it.

In August it will be 5 years since Donald Trump, as President, gave a nod to white supremacists at the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville — calling them “good people”.

Sometimes you hear folks frustrated with the state of our country say things like "it doesn't matter who you vote for". Well, they couldn't be more wrong. Having leaders who stand up for our values matters — and it matters a lot.

That’s what motivated Chris to get engaged in politics in the first place, and it’s what drives him to work from dawn to dark every day. Knowing that you are in this together with him makes all the difference.

Thank you for your support and appreciation of Chris, my husband, and the work that he does. And thank you for your commitment to the fight for progress and a better future.

Sincerely,

Katherine Van Hollen
