 Friend, I’d like to share my personal story with you. In the 1970s, my mother became pregnant with me. She was in her early 20’s, had no college education, and wasn’t married. At the time, having children at such a young age and out of wedlock was extremely out of the norm, let alone accepted. What was meant to be one of the most joyful moments in her life, also became one of the most difficult, she received extreme pressure from those around her to have an abortion. By the grace of God, my mother moved forward with her pregnancy, fully knowing how her life might change. As a single mother, she fully relied on God and the support of loved ones to help raise me. Today I stand here having lived a full life, and I am grateful for my mother's decision. Although we didn’t see it then, the adversity my mother and I faced together led me to where I am today. Being born into a non-traditional situation makes it an easy decision for me. I choose to protect the unborn. Friend, I hope that as I share my personal story with you today, you join me in standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
