Friend,
Over the weekend, I was devastated to hear of the racially-motivated shooting in Buffalo, New York.
Hate has no place in our nation, and we must be loud and clear in confronting it.
But it’s also long past time to pass commonsense reforms to make our communities safer. That's why Senator Mark Warner and I introduced our Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act.
This legislation builds on Virginia's 2020 commonsense framework to reduce gun violence through simple, achievable measures:
- Universal Background Checks
- One-Handgun-a-Month (limits on handgun purchases to curtail stockpiling and trafficking)
- Reporting of Lost or Stolen Firearms
- Preventing Firearm Access to Minors
- Protection Order Prohibitions (Strengthens safeguards for victims of domestic violence by closing the "boyfriend loophole")
- Extreme Risk Protection Orders
These measures are working in Virginia. And if we can do it in Virginia -- the headquarters of the NRA -- we can do it in Congress.
This is one of our age's most urgent moral issues, and we must take action -- not tomorrow or someday, but now.
Please add your name to show your support for this legislation to keep all Americans safer:
Thank you for staying committed in this fight,
