Take action on transit affordability: Sign our petition
On April 25, Public Transit Public Good was joined by the Transit is Essential Coalition at our “United for a Low-Income Fare Now!” event outside of Park Street Station. Together, we called on the Massachusetts legislature to pass a low-income fare bill this session. Check out the inspiring video of our event:

Affordability and safety are two urgent issues facing the MBTA today. A Federal Transit Administration safety review of the Authority – reported ([link removed]) by the Boston Globe this week – underscores the failures of the Baker Administration to ensure safety for riders and workers, as well as the need to vote YES on the Fair Share Amendment ([link removed]) to create a new permanent, progressive source of revenue to help maintain our public transit systems. At the same time, we must advance a low-income fare to make sure all riders can afford to get where they need to go.
How can you join the fight for safe, affordable, equitable, and accessible public transit systems in Mass? Sign our petition ([link removed]) calling for:
1. Reduced-fare programs for low-income riders on all modes.
2. New progressive revenue measures to ensure public transit is paid for by those who have plenty, not by those who are struggling to get by.

Recap: 2022 #LetUsBreathe Virtual Rally
On World Asthma Day, the Green Justice Coalition, community leaders, and health professionals across Massachusetts spoke out against the absence of environmental justice legislation to protect the health of residents, working families, and communities of color – those most in need of climate justice. The rally called attention to the intersecting issues of public transit, clean air, and equitable legislation that must be addressed now to support these communities.
“I filed H.2230, An Act to Improve Outdoor and Indoor Air Quality for Communities Burdened by Transportation Pollution ([link removed]) with Senator Jehlen and Rep. Connolly. By requiring air filters in existing and new buildings near congested roadways and railways and strengthening our sanitary code to decrease mold exposure, this bill will take concrete steps to improve the health of those most affected by pollution,” said Representative Christine Barber (D-Somerville & Medford).
“Increasing access to public transit, enacting legislation to combat air pollution, and creating efficient energy systems will help reduce the burden on our neighborhoods. Climate justice is possible if we take action as a united front to improve the health of our communities and address these intersecting issues simultaneously,” said Collique Williams, Organizer, Community Labor United.

Join The City School for their annual fundraising party, Celebrating Change 2022 on Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorchester Brewing Company. This year, The City School will be celebrating the people in our community who have anchored the organization’s racial and social justice leadership development programs. Those being honored with The City School’s Big Picture Awards are: Demita Frazier, May Louie, Dawn Belkin-Martinez and the Asian American Resource Workshop.

In Case You Missed It!
Energy Justice Victory in East Boston
This week, our partners at GreenRoots won a huge victory in energy justice by securing a partnership with the City of Boston’s Department of Environment to increase access to renewable energy and energy efficiency resources for Eastie residents, who are often left out of the solar economy. The Solarize Eastie Pilot program ([link removed]) supports GreenRoots’ partnership with Boston through implementing a group buying model to reduce costs for residents by aggregating demand and securing a discounted price per watt. This victory is a testament to all that we can achieve when we unite together, and work toward equitable solutions that benefit all. Accessible financing for low-income residents is possible!

Solidarity to Medford Tenants
This week, our partners at City Life / Vida Urbana, community members, and allies gathered at Medford Square to stand in solidarity with Medford tenants who are being forced to leave their homes due to merciless price gouging by homeowners and investors. We stand in solidarity with Medford tenants and all of Greater Boston's communities who are fighting to stay in their homes. We must create a housing system that does not exclude communities of color and low-income families, both of which are currently being pushed out of their homes. We choose to protect people over profits!
May Day Actions Across Massachusetts
Community leaders, allies, and local organizations held a number of events in recognition of May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day. It was incredible to see so many members of our communities stand in solidarity with workers at actions across the region. These actions celebrated the efforts of those who are fighting on the ground every day for fair wages and safe working conditions. Let’s continue our fight for equity and justice for all!
