Dear John,

Tomorrow is World Migratory Bird Day

We want to celebrate all the amazing species that carry out this truly incredible behaviour!

Geese, swans, ducks, and flamingos are just some of those great birds! Some migrate very long distances while others only travel short distance like many ducks who can migrate up to 750 miles.

Migrating geese is something most of us have seen at some point, that iconic V shape they produce in the sky while traveling thousands of miles is truly incredible! And some swans also migrate up to 4000 miles!

Sadly, it is these same great magnificent birds that, in captivity, will never even FLY! Why?

They are PINIONED.

At just a few days old, thousands of birds in UK zoos and wetland centres have the end of one wing deliberately severed, without aesthetic or pain relief.

This cruel and barbaric act is routinely carried out to stop birds from flying away. Sadly, this also gives the impression to visitors that the birds are choosing to stay, but in fact they have no choice.

Pinioning birds is formally recognised as a ‘mutilation’ and is illegal if carried out on birds that are farmed, but not on birds kept in zoos. This barbaric practice is BANNED in other countries, but not in the UK. That must end now!

I also want to tell you about our fun new Adopt an Animal packs. ([link removed])

We have animal adoption packs for elephants, owls and sea turtles!

Each of these beautiful species have been chosen to represent the animals who are used throughout the entertainment industry for profit and greed.

Our fun adoption packs help raise vital funds to help us to carry on the fight for the animals that are living miserable lives in captivity.

In our adoptions packs we have:
✨ A certificate of adoption
🐻 A eco cuddly toy, made from plastic bottles
🎈 Fun fact sheet
🎟️ Magazine and leaflets on our campaigns
🐾 Stickers
💚 And more

They are also all wrapped up in nice boxes so you can either keep for yourself or give away as a gift.
ADOPT AN ANIMAL ([link removed])
Adoptions cost from just £30 and run for a whole year. Over that time our adopters receive our twice yearly newsletter, Release, and regular updates about our campaigns, with hints and tips on more ways you can help animals. This truly is a gift that keeps on giving!

If you have questions about our adoptions you can read more here: www.freedomforanimals.org.uk/adopt-an-animal
