John— Over the last two years, gun violence has skyrocketed across the country. In 2020, the US saw the largest one-year increase in gun homicides on record. Now, communities that have always been disproportionately impacted by this crisis, including communities of color, are suffering even more. The gun violence epidemic in America is a public health crisis, and in order to address it effectively we need to know what’s driving it. Giffords Law Center has released our latest report, [ [link removed] ]Surging Gun Violence: Where We Are, How We Got Here, and Where We Go Next, to determine just that. [ [link removed] ]We can’t do this work without your support—can you donate now to fuel our efforts in the fight against gun violence? [ [link removed] ]$10 [ [link removed] ]$25 [ [link removed] ]$50 [ [link removed] ]$100 [ [link removed] ]$250 Our report explores the factors that likely did or didn’t contribute to these historic increases in gun violence. We found that while the impact of COVID-19 and the surge in gun sales likely increased gun violence, police reform efforts and changes to the criminal legal system likely did not. In our report, we also make recommendations for how to address this unprecedented crisis, because we know one thing for certain: We can’t expect this problem to go away on its own.
