Many of this years’ bills are now in the second house. Most bills pass easily out of the first house, so this is the time that our input can make a real difference. All bills have to be out of the first house appropriations committee by May 20 and out of the first house by May 27. Then we will know which bills have moved out of appropriations suspense and which bills have died.in the first house

So far 36 bills have died in the first house, including 7 that Livable California opposed and 4 that we supported.

The pace of the session is about to quicken. Deadlines:

Apr.29 – fiscal bills must be out of policy committee to appropriations committee

May 6 – non-fiscal bills approved for floor action

May 20 – Appropriations Committee final action on suspense file items

May 27 – Bills must be out of house of origin

May 31 thru June - 2d house policy committee hearings

July 1 – Deadline 2d house policy committee actions

July 1 – Aug 1 – Summer Recess

Aug. 1 – Aug. 31 Final days of 2022 session

Aug. 12 – Appropriations final actions deadline

Aug. 31 – Deadline for passing bills.

Aug. 31 – Interim recess begins after floor sessions end.

Tomorrow Wednesday May 11 the Assembly Housing & Community Development Committee will be hearing ACA 14, “Homelessness and affordable housing”, the constitutional amendment proposed by Asm. Wicks that would allocate 5% of the State’s general fund for the next 10 years to fund “housing and services to prevent and end homelessness,” low-income rental housing programs and affordable homeownership for low & moderate income households. We support this bill.
