I’ve Got Your Back was written by Right To Be’s very own Co-Founder and Executive Director, Emily May, and our Deputy Director, Jorge Arteaga. The book offers a deeper understanding of Right To Be’s methodology: the 5Ds of bystander intervention—Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct.
Through stories, graphics, and illustrations, I’ve Got Your Back will teach you what these 5Ds can look like in practice, whether you are in public, online, or at work. Not only will you understand how harassment has deepened dramatically in recent years or how to intervene or respond if you experience it yourself, but you will also learn strategies on how to mitigate bias, build resilience, and manage trauma. You will even have the opportunity to take a quiz to understand what kind of bystanders you are, and you will have the chance to reflect and dig into your own personal experiences.

Whether you are familiar with our methodology or not, reading this book will take you on a journey of empowerment, understanding, and compassion for others. It is one more tool to reaffirm that together we can fight harassment in all its forms. We hope it will also help you understand that bystander intervention is about caring for the most vulnerable parts of others, but also of ourselves.
If you are here, it is because you have helped us with the creation of this resource, so THANK YOU! Now, we would greatly appreciate your support in helping us spread the news on your social media. Don’t forget to tag us @righttobeorg.
