We’re all still reeling from Monday’s leak of the SCOTUS decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The nightmare we all hoped would never come to pass is about to become reality, and people are (rightly!) outraged.
But what some folks may have missed in the initial uproar over abortion rights is just how sweeping the changes brought about by this decision would be – Alito’s opinion goes way beyond throwing the abortion debate back to the states; it strikes the entire concept of a constitutional “Right to Privacy” from federal law!
Here’s a lengthy-but-in-no-way-comprehensive list of currently protected civil rights that could be criminalized overnight if SCOTUS succeeds in eliminating our constitutional right to privacy and personal autonomy:
- Abortion
- Contraception for married couples
- Contraception for single people
- Discontinuation of life-prolonging medical treatments by terminally ill patients
- Same-sex physical intimacy
- Oral sex
- Interracial marriage
- Same-sex marriage
- In-vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive technologies
- Procreation and parenting rights for marginalized people (including the right not to be sterilized without consent)
- Adult consumption of “explicit” media
… and more.
And here is a list of long-banned civil rights abuses that could be on their way back, for the exact same reason:
- Forced sterilizations
- Forced drug testing during childbirth
- Forced recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, regardless of religious/ethical beliefs
- Ideological “purity” tests and loyalty oaths for public employees, including school teachers
- Mandatory Bible and devotional readings and prayer in public schools
- Firing public school teachers for “public homosexual activity or conduct,” including advocating for LGBTQ+ rights
… and more.
We cannot allow this to happen!
Look, the GQP have made no bones about their ultimate goals here – during Ketanji Brown Jackson’s hearings, Republican senators were open about their desire to overturn SCOTUS rulings allowing abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and even interracial marriage.
And that’s just what they admitted to in public – the above list comes much closer to representing what they’re plotting behind closed doors.
We can’t allow the Republicans to drag us back to the “bad ol’ days” of the 20th (and even 19th) century!
It’s obvious that with the Supreme Court compromised by Trump-appointed far-right authoritarians, we’re going to have to do something drastic to stop their crazy train before it derails our entire country.
That means codifying Roe, expanding the Court, and possibly even applying term limits to judicial appointees … and we’re going to need a bigger Senate majority to do any of it.
That’s why No Dem Left Behind has set the ambitious goal of raising $1 million in the month of May to flip more Senate seats BLUE in 2022.
This will be the most aggressive undertaking No Dem Left Behind has ever taken on in our young history, but our constitutional rights are worth it.
If everyone who reads this message chips in just $10 to the No Dem Left Behind Senate Fund, we’ll hit our goal … but we know not everyone will, so if you can afford more, we hope you’ll chip in as much as you can.
  
 
But this can’t be a one-time rage contribution – we need you on our team for the long haul. This won’t be a single battle; it’s going to be a full-on war against the Radical Right.

Now is the time to make a choice, while we still can – will we let them turn America into Gilead?
