Dear John,
Last night, it was reported [[link removed]] that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade . In the draft opinion, Justice Alito wrote, "We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled." While the official decision is still to come, it is clear that we cannot depend on the Supreme Court to protect our rights. We knew this day was coming, but the impact is still shocking.
What do we do now? It will soon be up to state legislatures to protect or dismantle our access to abortion. Here in North Carolina, our only hope of protecting access to abortion is electing pro-choice, progressive women to the NC General Assembly and protecting Gov. Cooper's veto power and our reproductive rights. Women must be at the table when decisions are made about reproductive freedom.
