Hello John,
So, what did we learn this week?
Kevin McCarthy is a liar and a traitor? Nah, we already knew that.
Kevin McCarthy is a coward? Oh, wait, we knew that too.
No, what we learned this week is just how weak Kevin McCarthy’s “leadership” is within his own party.
McCarthy’s twitter handle on Twitter might be @GOPLeader, but he is far from it – this week we found out via explosive audio releases that McCarthy has absolutely no say in what goes on in the Republican Party, because it’s 100% controlled by Donald Trump and his radical fringe loyalists.
So, what does that mean for us Democrats?
I believe it gives us just the opportunity we’ve been looking for to target our messaging heading into the vital midterm elections.
Remember, 81 million people voted for President Biden, and when they cast those votes, they were sending a message: Our country is a democracy built on diversity, we embrace different people and cultures, and we reject Trump’s bigoted, small-minded ideas about what makes America “great.”
The other side learned nothing from the 2020 elections; they are doubling down and embracing only the most radical, bigoted, and vile among their ranks and elevating those folks to leadership.
Most Americans don’t want that – we want a return to civility in Washington, and that’s something only Democrats can offer while the GQP is walking down their ugly path. But civility alone won’t be enough for us to win – we need to put our policies front and center, too.
For example, Americans want universal pre-K – and believe me, I speak from my own experience on this one!
My wife and I have young children two and three years old. Their monthly preschool and daycare payments cost as much as our mortgage, but we have no other choice – like most parents in America, my wife and I both work, and preschool isn’t available at our local public schools. If it were, it would be a gamechanger – not just for my family, but for millions of others.
Universal pre-K is just one example of a policy that President Biden and our Democratic leadership have proposed that Republicans have said “No” to.
Why?
It’s a serious question: What American – right, left, or center – doesn’t want to be able to send their kids to preschool without it breaking the bank? So why do the Republicans oppose it?
These are the kinds of questions we need to be asking publicly … of our opponents, of voters, and of ourselves.
Sometimes we just need to take a step back, stop overthinking it, and speak from our individual experiences, because that is what our fellow Americans can relate to.
At No Dem Left Behind, we’re not in the D.C. bubble – in fact, aside from our compliance, accounting, and HR staffers, our team is strategically located in other parts of the country.
We have folks in Illinois, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Kentucky, and heading into the midterms, we’re hoping to add some folks out West, too. We need different voices and perspectives from all over America, so that the Democratic Party can grow and continue to win.
