Our supporters like you across the state can help to get the North Carolina Green Party and our future candidates back on the ballot by collecting petition signatures from registered voters outside voting precincts during primary Early Voting Days (April 28–May 14) and Primary Day itself (May 17). Voting days are essential petitioning opportunities for our ballot access campaign. With your help, we can collect thousands of signatures in time to get our NC Green Party hopeful candidate for US Senate, Matthew Hoh <[link removed]>, on the ballot this November in the general election.

April 28: Early voting period begins for the 2022 statewide primary. Can you get out today during lunch hours and after work?
May 14: Early voting period ends at 3 p.m. for the 2022 statewide primary.
May 17: Statewide Primary
Below you will find important information and links to help you take advantage of this opportunity to reach registered voters.
VOTING PRECINCTS FOR PRIMARY DAY AND EARLY VOTING
During Early Voting and the actual day of the Primary, we strongly suggest you go to a voting precinct near you that you think will be the busiest. Alternatively, simply go to the precinct you vote at. Here is the link for all Early Voting precincts in North Carolina <[link removed]>, including the days and times they're open. Days and times vary from site to site across the state. But the Early Voting period for the 2022 statewide primary begins Thursday, April 28, 2022, and ends at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022. This period is sometimes called “one-stop early voting.”

Please note, depending on your county, that some precincts may be designated as "restricted" or "partially restricted." The restricted ones are typically churches that do not allow you to petition or flyer on their property. You will have to find a different precinct in that case. The partially restricted ones allow you to petition and flyer but do not allow signs.
PRIMARY DAY VOTING SITES (May 17)
Unfortunately the State Board of Elections does not have a link to all the voting sites for each county during Election Day like they do for early voting. You have to go to your county board website to find this information. This link will take you to a portal where you can go to any select county board of elections: [link removed]. Select your county and it will bring up a link to that county board of elections, where you should be able to find that county’s Primary Election Day voting locations. If you still need help, just contact one of the organizers listed below.
PETITION SHEET
Download and print the NCGP Ballot Access Petition <[link removed]>. Print one-sided only, on white letter-sized paper. Signatures must be collected on sheets with the county at which the signer is registered to vote written at the top. So if you encounter five voters who are registered to vote in five different counties, then you must use five one-sided sheets and write the appropriate county name at the top of each. (These are state rules, sorry!) If you are not able to print sheets, please contact one of the organizers listed below. If you get sheets printed at a copy shop, save your receipt for reimbursement.
Tips, Instructions, and Script for Ballot Access Petitioning <[link removed]>
Bring at least 15–20 blank copies of the petition sheet, a few black or blue pens, and at least two clipboards. Polls might be very busy. Two or more clipboards is best to keep signers from having to wait.
FACTS ABOUT PETITIONING
- Any registered voter (Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or unaffiliated) can sign thepetition.
- Always be respectful and polite
- State law says you have the right to petition 50 feet away from the entrance to a polling station. Usually the polling station staffers will have hung a sign marking the 50 feet or drawn a line on the ground. But sometimes not. Know your rights in case anyone questions you: it’s 50 feet. Do not argue with polling place officers and officials.
- The county name must be written at the top of the petition sheet. Only signers in that county may sign that particular petition sheet. Bring blank sheets in case you encounter people from other counties.
- Signers must fill out their row completely: printed name, home address, city/town, date of birth, signature. Legibility is important. Make sure that they actually sign after filling out the other info.
- Signing the petition does not sign a person up for the Green Party in any way; it doesn’t mean they’re a Green, and we won’t contact them. The petition sheets go to the Board of Elections.
AFTER EARLY VOTING and PRIMARY DAY
After you’ve collected your signatures for the day, please tally up the number of signatures you collected and contact Michael (

[email protected]>) to let him know your count. WE MUST GET THE SIGNATURES INTO THE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS ASAP. The boards need time to verify the signatures by the June 1 deadline. That means that you should mail in your petition sheets to the address below, or hand them over to an organizer, by the end of Early Voting on May 14. On May 17, Primary Day, we must submit all signatures we collect to the county boards before 3:00 p.m. THAT DAY. So on May 17, you must stop petitioning in time to go to the appropriate county board of elections to hand-deliver all your signatures for that day.
The following instructions for submitting your petition sheets are for Early Voting and Primary Day petitioning only. There are 3 options for turning in your signatures you gather on Early Voting and Primary Day. For people petitioning at other locations such as festivals, rallies, etc., it is extremely important to turn in your petitions to us before May 14.
1) IF ALL OF YOUR SHEETS ARE FROM ONE COUNTY (which should be the case for 95% of signatures gathered at primary voting precincts): Look over the names and addresses for legibility. (You cannot alter the signature column, however.) Take the signatures to the appropriate local county board of elections THAT SAME DAY, PREFERABLY BY MAY 14, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO LATER THAN MAY 16 and ASK FOR DATE-STAMPED COPIES. Bring cash: The county boards shouldn't charge you for copies, but if they do we will reimburse you.
2) Meet with a designated representative in your area to turn them in as soon as possible but no later than May 14. Either way, your contact person will follow up with you. Please go ahead and turn in sheets as you go. DO NOT HOLD ONTO SHEETS.
3) IF YOU CANNOT TURN THE SHEETS INTO THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS OR A COORDINATOR CANNOT MEET WITH YOU TO PICK THEM UP, THEN YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST MAIL ANY PETITIONS THAT YOU CANNOT SUBMIT TO THE BOARDS OF ELECTIONS BY MAY 10 TO:
