💪 Levantémonos Juntos - Rise Up Together 💪

AEI Painting Contractors, LLC is exploiting their workers with rampant wage theft, worker misclassification, and anti-union intimidation!

Join IUPAT, GLAHR, and local religious leaders for a rally and press conference to support workers organizing for dignity on the job. This rally will be held Thursday, April 28th at 10:00 AM at 235 Kennesaw State University Road, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Come with signs to show your support!

☕Coffee with Comrades☕

Last Thursday, DSA members visited the Howell Mill Road Starbucks together for a Solidarity "Sip-In" to support the workers in their struggle against anti-union scare tactics from management. DSA members gathered in the lobby during a mandatory anti-union meeting organized by management to scare workers from voting Union Yes. Needless to say, the manager was pretty upset to see us all there. The Howell Mill location is voting now via mail, and we should learn the results in the coming weeks!

🌹 April General Meeting Recap 🌹

At this past Saturday's general meeting, we heard news and updates from chapter groups, and discussed and voted on three resolutions submitted by members.

Members unanimously approved Resolution 22-10: Developing Chapter Labor Organizers, which set aside $2,500 from chapter coffers to fund members to attend the 2022 Labor Notes conference, to be held June 17-19 in Chicago. The Labor Notes Conference is the biggest gathering out there of grassroots union activists, worker center leaders, and all-around troublemakers, assembling thousands of union members, officers, and activists from around the country for meetings and workshops. Keep an eye out for a scholarship application form in future newsletters!

Next, members discussed Resolution 22-11: Democratic, Accountable, and Inclusive Organizing, which sought to address a trend of inappropriate behavior, abusive bullying, and hostile infiltration that has been negatively impacting DSA nationwide. First, members discussed an amendment to the resolution, Reaching Greater Consensus on Conduct and Decision-making, which gave specific positive examples for how DSA members ought to deal with political conflict democratically. After some thorough discussion of the importance of the chapter code of conduct, members adopted both the amendment and the final amended resolution by unanimous consent.

Finally, members debated and approved Resolution 22-12: Strategically Mobilizing Members for the 2022 Primaries, which authorized our Electoral committee to release an issue-based voter guide for the upcoming Democratic Primaries, and to organize get-out-the-vote canvassing throughout the month of May, tentatively scheduled for every Saturday at 11am. The voter guide is scheduled to be published on May 1st, just in time for early voting, which begins on May 2nd. You can check your voter registration at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/

🍴 Douglas Debs Dinner 🍴

For 13 years, Atlanta DSA's Douglass-Debs dinner has brought together Atlanta’s progressive community to honor outstanding role models and leaders, celebrate our accomplishments during the past year, and enjoy an evening of comradeship.

This year, our keynote speaker will be AFL-CIO Southern Regional Director Charles Clark. We will host the 2022 Douglass-Debs Dinner in the IBEW hall on Pulliam Street in downtown Atlanta on Friday, June 3, 2022.

The dinner is a great opportunity to meet with other community activists and hear from inspiring speakers.  Tickets are $50, with reduced-cost tickets available for students and other low-income comrades. We look forward to seeing you there!
