John,
I wanted to give you an update on our fundraising.
Since we let you know that our fundraising was trending downward this year, more than 2,500 grassroots supporters have stepped up and helped us turn things around. Now, we’re on track in April to raise more than we did in March.
That’s great news. But the team and I noticed another concerning comparison. In April 2020, the last time we had a slate of primaries, Justice Democrats raised $167,421. This month, we are 36% behind pace to raise what we did in April ‘20.
In 2020, we elected Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman. It was a huge year for Justice Democrats. And we needed every single dollar to defeat corporate Democrats with the backing of the establishment, Wall Street, and corporate PACs.
We need every single dollar this year too, because we’re trying to elect 5 more Justice Democrats to join the Squad. We’re up against well-funded corporate Democrats again. The establishment doesn’t want to see our candidates win — they don’t want us to upset the status quo.
The hard truth is nearly 90% of Congressional races are won by candidates who spend the most money. You’ve probably seen me write that before, because it’s so important. Some of the incumbents we’re facing had millions in their campaign accounts before our candidates even announced they were running. Some are raising more than 2x or 3x as much as our working-class, progressive candidates.
That’s why we need you to donate for the first time today.
We know we can win races even if we don’t have more money than our corporate-funded opponents and their Super PACs. But we have to close some of the gap.
So, John, can you chip in today to help us take on corporate Democrats and elect our slate of progressives?
I appreciate so, so much whatever you can give today, whether it’s $3, $27, $100 or anything at all. We will never take corporate PAC money and we will always rely on our grassroots movement.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas, Executive Director
Justice Democrats
