Why have we changed our name?
As the need for debt justice grows, we needed to address some hard truths. Through surveys in the past two years, supporters like you have said that our current name is a barrier to engaging people.
In one survey 75% said the name was unclear or unhelpful.
Many are unsure of what we do, or associate the word 'Jubilee' with the monarchy. Having a name that reflects where we have come from and expresses our intent is essential. When we asked supporters and partners, they told us that Debt Justice is the name the majority preferred, and the name that can carry our work forward into the future.
We remain committed to, and rooted in the concept of Jubilee and everything it represents - debt cancellation, celebration, hope, restoration, redistribution and justice. All of these are extremely important values and will continue to drive our campaigns.
This is the start of a new chapter, and we need to build our impact and influence. If you have any questions, or comments, there will be an exclusive meeting for supporters like yourself on 11 April, at 6:30pm. You'll have the opportunity to ask me any questions and give feedback about this change.
