Working to End Felony Disenfranchisement

Yes, I'd like to join Michael Hall and the ACLU in a webinar to learn about what I can do to restore voting rights to tens of thousands of Iowans.

Dear ACLU Supporter,

Iowa is poised – finally – to restore voting rights to tens of thousands of Iowans who have been convicted of a felony. Iowa is just one of two states left that permanently strips anyone convicted of a felony from voting, for life. Last year our governor voiced her support for a constitutional amendment to end felony disenfranchisement, and the issue has steadily gained bipartisan support.

Join us Wednesday, December 11, 6 to 7 p.m. for a special webinar on Iowa felony disenfranchisement and how we can work to end it ([link removed]).

Now is the moment to end felony disenfranchisement. In recognition of this, the ACLU is putting special time and resources into this effort. Michael Hall, who will be part of the webinar, has come on board as a national organizing strategist here in Iowa. A native of upstate New York, he has excellent experience in organizing and energizing grassroots activists.

Now Michael is engaged full time with other ACLU of Iowa staff to move the ball forward on this key issue. He's already has started working with ACLU volunteers – and is recruiting more – to urge their state representatives to right this wrong. He's also reaching out to Iowans who can't vote because of this draconian law, to elevate their stories, and show the devastating impact of this form of voter suppression.

Find out more about the webinar here ([link removed]).

We'll talk about history, the impact on the Black community, how amending the Iowa constitution works, and what you can do to help.

If you'd like to help, or have a story to share, or have any questions about the webinar, please reach out to Michael directly at [email protected].

Best,

Daniel Zeno
Policy Director, ACLU of Iowa
