Fatherly

At Fatherly, facts matter. But where do they come from? It’s not meant to be a cynical question — in fact, it’s a good question, one dads everywhere need to face. How do you make big decisions around the well-being of yourself and your family? We believe the answer to that is through science. This is why we practice science journalism to answer the biggest questions, like what type of preschool is best for kids, whether you still need to mask up, and which baby milestones you actually need to worry about. Every Friday, look out for a thematic newsletter hitting one subject that impacts our lives as parents and people. This week, we take a close look at alcohol and the science behind its potential health benefits (one glass of red, right?), its detriments (addiction and heart health chief among them), and everything in between (it’s just plain fun). After all, nine million American men have an alcohol use disorder. So what does the evidence say is a healthy relationship with booze? It’s mixed. For some people, going sober is the best bet; for others, drinking on the weekend or “California sober” works just fine. It’s about finding what works for you. But cutting back a bit probably won’t hurt.
