In many ways, Herschel Walker is the prototypical GOP candidate in 2022. Incendiary, tons of baggage they’re hoping everyone ignores, and most importantly: will do anything for Trump.

Trump, though, continues to be as unpredictable as ever. Normally you’d think the way to getting his endorsement is by hiring all his cronies. After all, in Trumpworld, only money matters. That’s why people were drinking $100 sips of wine out of spoons at the Old Post Office trying to lobby him in Washington. It’s why they flock to and pay for rooms at Mar-a-Lago. So when David McCormick decided to run for Senate in Pennsylvania, he hired Stephen Miller and a bunch of other Trump cronies.

How’d that turn out for him? Trump decided to go with the guy who he thinks most closely resembles himself. The TV huckster Dr. Oz. Just another day in the GOP.

That’s what we’re up against, folks. You know we need to win. Help keep us in the fight today.

So why are Dr. Oz, Herschel Walker, a Bitcoin lunatic in New Hampshire who compared Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to Bin Laden, and the Eric Greitenses of the world all poised to not only win their primaries but join Hawley, Cruz, and MTG in Congress?

They still get that proximity to their Dear Leader and the money is all that really matters. David McCormick has nine-figure wealth and used to be a moderate. Even he succumbed to the pull of Trump.

Nobody running for office with an R next to their name at any level can resist. Not a single person. The only ones who tried (Kemp, Cheney, et al) are under assault. That is the state of the GOP in 2022.

There isn’t much more to it than that. You are within your rights to stop reading this email right now, throw up your hands, and go look at real estate in New Zealand. Believe me, I’ve considered it. But I am not willing to give up on this fight for our democracy, and I don’t think you are either.

Now reading Rick Scott’s tax hike on every American earning less than $300k makes more sense. They are playing to their puppeteers, which is effectively a cabal of megadonors and Trump himself. Now you get why the Saudis just gave Jared Kushner $2 billion to manage despite him being one of the worst people on the planet you could trust with $2, let alone $2 billion.

Look around. Who’s going to beat them? You saw how slim the margins were in Georgia, Wisconsin and Michigan. This new brand of crazy came within 44,000 votes of not only re-electing Trump but also controlling the Senate, where Mitch McConnell is openly laughing about doing anything other than obstructing President Biden should they win.

If you’re like me, you’re looking around at what the Democrats are attempting to muster and you’re openly begging them to sharpen their message. Go after the GOP on your economic success. Hold them accountable for January 6th. Do something other than worry.

The most common question I have gotten since you, the people reading this email, helped The Lincoln Project beat Trump in 2020 is – what is the role we are supposed to play in 2022?

Necessity demands that we once again become the tip of the spear. Our mission is clear.

Soon you’ll see where we are going to be spending our time and money to help make sure our country remains a democracy. We are going to have to be more targeted than ever in our effort. But thankfully, we know exactly who we need to talk to and what they need to hear.
