Our state was founded as a haven from war and intolerance. That is why today, our commonwealth must step up and welcome Ukrainian refugees with open arms.

Dear friend,

It’s been over one month since Russia and President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale military invasion on the sovereign nation of Ukraine.

In the weeks following, over 4 million people have been forced to flee from Ukraine. Communities have left almost everything behind in their search for refuge from Russia’s unprovoked attack on their homes and way of life.

Our state was founded as a haven from war and intolerance. That is why today, our commonwealth must step up and welcome Ukrainian refugees with open arms.

Last month, I introduced legislation that would allocate $2 million dollars in state funding to provide assistance for Ukrainian refugees who come to Pennsylvania. I’m proud to announce that Governor Wolf has voiced his support in passing this important relief package.

Governor Wolf commends Senator Lindsey Williams' legislation to provide relief for Ukrainian refugees.

The first Ukrainian refugees are already arriving in Pennsylvania, and the agencies ready to receive them need our support now. The New Neighbors Fund created by my bill would allow our agencies on the ground to serve these refugees and meet their immediate needs as they begin to heal and rebuild from the trauma they’ve experienced.

Our Ukrainian neighbors need our help. We cannot stand by and watch when we have the resources to support them right now.

My heart remains with the brave people of Ukraine.

In solidarity,

Senator Lindsey Williams
